Nine Years Among the Indians, 1870-1879 : The Story of the Captivity and Life of a Texan Among the Indians
- by Herman Lehmann, Marvin J. Hunter (Editor), Dale F. Giese (Designer), J. Marvin Hunter (Editor)
, Paperback - 235 pages (Reprint Ed. May 1993) - $12.21
Herman Lehmann was another one of our colorful Texas characters, who was captured by the Apaches when he was eleven years old, on his parents farm near Fredericksburg, Texas. After spending 3 years with the Apaches, he accidently killed a medicine man, and ran off to join the Comanche tribe. He finally was returned to his grieving family, after being confined with Quanah Parker on the reservation at Ft Sill Oklahoma. Most historians agree this book is one of the best narratives ever published on the Apaches and Comanches. J Frank Dobie called it the "finest captive narrative of the Southwest". |
